The Foundation is building an endowment fund which will be used to support ongoing projects and bursaries for the school. Income from the endowment fund will not be used to meet the normal running costs of the Academy. Projects and bursaries might include:
Sustainability initiatives
> Funding towards improvements in the local community, building links to the community through service for students, such as reading for the blind, children's groups and carers.
Community initiatives
> Developing a programme of community education and support for local people.
> Enhancing communal spaces both in and around the Academy.
> Running citizenship events, with external speakers and visits.
> Leadership and adventure training – all students will have the opportunity to experience a full outward bound programme, including residential stay at the Royal Borough's activity centre in Surrey.
> Working with primary schools.
Science initiatives
> Promoting the "public understanding of science" using the model employed by the DANA centre, and including local evening events with lectures.
> Funding additional equipment beyond the basic requirement for the Academy's science laboratories – for example, a glasshouse and an observatory.
> Science scholarships for students wishing to go on to further education.
> Establishing the Academy as a satellite centre for the Science Learning Centre, London.
> Hosting science fairs for local schools.
> Science fieldwork trips for students.
> Science conferences for students and teachers.
> Running projects with local museums, including exhibitions, fieldwork, work exchanges and a shadowing programme.
PE initiatives
> Hosting sports competitions, such as inter-school and inter-house, and gaining entrance into national competitions and sports tours.
> Providing sports equipment, uniforms and kit.
> Enabling teachers and coaches to take after school sports clubs, to build the skills and interests of the students.
> Visits to sporting events.
Faculty and staff initiatives
> Continued professional development.
> Support with staff childcare.
> Create professorships and teaching chairs.
> Secondment opportunities for existing staff.
> Funding for visiting lecturers.
> Careers service for the students, including personal coaching, tutoring and mentoring provided by professional mentors.
ICT initiative
> Funding the expansion of the student/staff provision.
